Very tight, with aromas of flint, apples and citrus fruit that follow through to a full body, with honey and vanilla character. Needs time. Like a premier cru white Burgundy. 92 Wine Spectator, 93 ParkerAlphonse Mellot Generation XIX Sancerre 2006 (Sauvignon Blanc) $115Broad and lush, with gorgeous lemon curd, chamomile, honeysuckle and grapefruit notes that glide over a richly layered palate. The long finish really stretches out, allowing chive and salted butter notes to mingle together.Monbousquet St Emilion Blanc 2005 $110More Burgundian than Bordeaux-like, Gerard Perse’s 2005 white Monbousquet exhibits rich, medium to full-bodied flavors of smoky oak, mango, white peaches, honeysuckle, and nectarine. 92 ParkerChardonnaySchug Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2007 $25Fresh and flinty, this is medium-bodied, with Key lime, citrus and green apple flavors that have lively acidity.Molnar Carneros Chardonnay 2006 $30The 2006 Chardonnay exhibits vanilla, caramel, tropical fruit, and lemon blossom characteristics as well as a lovely texture, admirable elegance and freshness, and a long finish. 90 Parker*Ask your server for other recommendations not on this listChappellet Napa Chardonnay 2007 $40Ripe layers of fig, green apple and pear are full-bodied yet elegant, gaining body and richness and ending with a full-blown finish, shaded by nutmeg. 91 Wine SpectatorFailla Keefer Ranch Chardonnay 2007 $50Simiarly-styled, but with more nectarine and lemon zest notes as well as that unmistakable minerality is the 2007 Chardonnay Keefer Ranch. This lovely wine has more flesh and depth on its bones, but it remains zesty. 92 ParkerDuMol Russian River Chardonnay 2007 $70A blend of different vineyards, their 2007 Chardonnay Russian River might turn out to be one of the best Chardonnays they have made under this moniker. Crisp acids, beautiful lemon butter notes intermixed with brioche and orange/nectarine notes are all present in this full-bodied wine, with the oak pushed well into the background. 93 ParkerRadio Coteau Savoy Chardonnay 2006 $75The 2006 Chardonnay Savoy is cut from the same mold. It's broad and leesy rather than incisive, with a long finish. Drink now through 2020. 75 cases made. 91 Wine SpectatorYves Boyer-Martenot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Cailleret 2005 $145Candied citrus rind, licorice, coconut, vanilla, and peach preserves in the nose usher in an imposingly creamy palate, with a hint of milkiness and detached wood. Refreshing acidity keeps the undeniable richness here from becoming tiring. 90+ Parker Other Interesting Whites Revana Pinot Gris 2007 $25This feels refreshing but has a little extra depth going for it, with peach, melon and vague hints of mint and cream lurking behind the fruit. Remains expressive on the deftly balanced finish. 90 Wine SpectatorClos de Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2007 $125Very pure and stony, with a note of grapefruit zest around the edges of the blanched almond, honeysuckle, Jonagold apple and heather flavors. The long, superminerally finish is amazingly pure and refined, with plenty in reserve. Drink now through 2018. 830 cases made. 95 Wine SpectatorChapoutier L’Ermite Blanc 1999 $425This is one of the greatest dry white wines I have ever tasted. The 1999 Ermitage l'Ermite is a liquid mineral, crystalline expression. It is the essence of its grape as well as terroir. It may be the greatest expression of terroir I have seen outside of a handful of Alsatian Rieslings (Clos Ste. Hune comes to mind). It has that transparent character that terroiristes talk more about than actually recognize. Drinking it is like consuming a liquified stony concoction mixed with white flowers, licorice, and honeyed fruits. It is frightfully pure, dense, and well-delineated. As I said last year, "There is no real fruit character, just glycerin, alcohol, and liquid stones." That's about it, but, wow, what an expression! Anticipated maturity: 2012-2050. This is for the connoisseur of rare wines. Along with Gerard and Jean-Louis Chave, Chapoutier is producing the finest expressions of white Hermitage. 100 Parker RedsPinot NoirWH Smith Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2007 $40This greets with spicy, toasty oak aromas, then folds in spicy black cherry, mineral and cedar notes. Elegant and medium-bodied, with a complex touch of graphite and anise.Foxen Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2008 $40Pinot Noir is a delicious blend of currants, cola, beet root, earth, and spice box. The wine is rich, fresh, medium to full-bodied, and long. 93 ParkerDenis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 2005 $125The 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Cinq Terroirs perpetuates the practice begun with the 2004 vintage, of combining the fruit from Au Velle, En Motrot, Combe du Dessus, En Deree and En Champs (all downhill from Champeaux on the north side of Gevrey) into a single and – at least in this instance -- highly synergistic village wine, representing nearly half of the estate’s total acreage. Fruit from these sites is co-fermented in two lots segregated by age of vine, and then blended (which we did in the glass, since like its stable mates, this wine will be racked only once, in March, pursuant to bottling). Ripe black fruits with carnal, fungal and mineral nuances combine for a clear, bright, satin-textured, and substantially-concentrated impression, free of any superficial sweetness and successfully resisting the influence of the all new barrels. Long, rolling low tones of black fruits and forest floor complete a picture very 2005 in its combination of bright fresh-fruit acids with dark, even slightly somber hues of flavor. 92 ParkerMerlot/MalbecAlta Vista Terroir Seleccion Malbec 2006 $30The 2006 Malbec Grand Reserve was aged for 12 months in French oak, 50% new. The color is a saturated purple and the nose gives up aromas of wood smoke, mineral, blueberry, and black raspberry. On the palate, this medium to full-bodied wine has enough structure to evolve for 3-5 years, excellent depth, savory flavors, and a long, pure finish. 91 Parker Steltzner Stag’s Leap District Merlot 2006 $40Juicy and fruit-forward, with black cherry and vanilla aromas and modest red currant and spice flavors.Tikal Amorio Malbec 2007 $40100% Malbec sourced from vines with an average age of 41 years. Medium to full-bodied, it is silky-textured with a surprisingly elegant personality for its size. Layered, sweetly-fruited, and intense. 92 ParkerLuca Malbec 2007 $45The purple/black 2007 Luca Malbec was sourced from a 43-year-old ungrafted vineyard and aged for 12 months in 60% French oak before bottling without fining or filtration. Full-bodied on the palate, the wine is well-balanced, layered, and intense. 92 ParkerEnrique Foster Limited Edition Malbec 2004 $70The 2004 Malbec Limited Edition was aged for 15 months in new French oak.
